Section 21 Committee
PSHSA offers a unique two-day Fire Sector Specific Health & Safety Training Program to help assist fire services workers gain the knowledge and understanding of the hazards involved in their jobs. This program is the level 2 training required by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and WSIB to be certified after basic certification training. This is also a good session for those interested in learning more about special safety issues and concerns that fire/rescue personnel face every day. Modules are offered individually or collectively as a program. The topics that will be covered in the program are: Legislation, Section 21 Guidance Notes, Traffic and Vehicle Operation Safety, Respiratory Issues in the Fire Service, Slips/Trips/Falls, Ergonomics and MSD’s Specialized Hazards in Fire Response, Health and Wellness in the Fire Service, Specialized Considerations, and Program Action Planning.

PTSD is a mental health condition caused by witnessing or experiencing actual or threatened death, serious injury or violence. Ontario has taken steps to address the harmful impacts of exposure to traumatic events on first responders, including the requirement for employers to develop PTSD Prevention Plans.
